Jackson County ranges in elevation from two-thousand to six-thousand feet. Hiking trails offer mountain scenery, wildflowers, and wildlife viewing for casual and experienced hikers. There are over fifty well-maintained trails, including 675 miles of trails in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park alone. The Appalachian Trail, running two-thousand miles from Georgia to Maine, passes just north of the county. Various guide services are available for both day hikes and overnight pack trips.
